At TAPESL, students progress through our structured Dragon Level system, designed to clearly reflect each childās stage of English development.
The Dragon Level represents a studentās overall ability across vocabulary, grammar, phonics, reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Each Dragon Level is aligned with specific stages of the Super English curriculum mixed with additional resources from Twinkl, ensuring systematic academic progression and measurable improvement.
As students advance through the levels, they build stronger language foundations, greater confidence, and increased communication skills.
Students begin building core vocabulary and basic sentence structures.
Focus is placed on phonics (CVC words, short vowels), early reading skills, and simple spoken communication.
This level establishes essential foundations for future language growth.
Students expand their grammar knowledge (including present simple and question forms) and strengthen phonics through blends and long vowels.
Reading fluency begins to develop, and students gain confidence in forming longer sentences.
Students demonstrate improved grammar control and begin reading longer texts with comprehension.
Sentence connectors, structured responses, and increased speaking fluency are emphasized at this stage.
Students work with more complex grammar structures and structured writing tasks.
Reading comprehension deepens, and speaking becomes more independent and detailed.
Students show strong grammar accuracy, confident reading and writing skills, and the ability to communicate extended ideas clearly.
This level prepares students for higher-level English study and international benchmarks.
Each student is placed in a Dragon Level based on ability, not age.
Progress is continuously monitored through the Super English curriculum units and structured assessment.
Parents receive detailed feedback outlining:
⢠Grammar covered
⢠Phonics development
⢠Skills demonstrated
⢠Areas for improvement
The Dragon Level system ensures that every studentās progress is transparent, structured, and aligned with international learning standards.
